Banner - Whistler luxury

Many travellers plan a Whistler getaway for one of two reasons. Either they’re seeking big mountain adventures, or respite and reconnection with nature. But there is a luxury side to Whistler, too. If it’s a once-in-a-lifetime vacation that you’re after, consider Whistler for your five star escape.

Don’t let your budget get in the way; depending on the time of year that you plan your Whistler getaway, you too could be living in the lap of luxury, with a more reasonable price tag. Join us as we explore VIP Whistler – from the little treats to the downright extravagant.

Gourmet Eats in Whistler Village

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just feel like treating yourself, there’s lots of fine dining options in Whistler. Here’s five of our favourites to whet your appetite (looking for budget eats?)

  1. Red Door Bistro

You’ll find Red Door Bistro in Whistler Creekside. It’s roughly 5km south of the main Whistler Village area but very accessible. Consistently voted one of the best restaurants in Whistler – it’s certainly worth making the trip! We recommend booking your table in advance as this romantic, little spot quickly fills up.

The menu features a hearty variety of fish and meats fit for a king, including veal, boar and elk. Expect approachable flavours delivered with exquisite flair. A firm favourite of ours is the Bouillabaisse, and you can’t go wrong with the Peanut Butter Bombe to finish! Red Door is the perfect little date-night spot.

  1. Araxi

Dine surrounded by wines, sherry, and champagne at Araxi

The sister restaurant of popular Vancouver eateries CinCin and Bluewater Café, Araxi is located in the heart of Whistler Village. They serve “the best of nearby fields, pastures and pristine waters” all expertly overseen by Executive Chef James Walt. Araxi has a wonderful patio, which we find is best enjoyed in summer months. Live large and make time to try their oysters washed down with their ‘Trophy Wife’ cocktail. It features pink peppercorn infused vodka, apricot, egg white, lime, and lemon. A couple of those and you’ll feel like a million dollars.

Hot Tip: Consider visiting Araxi in the shoulder season to enjoy a great deal. Taking place in the spring and then again in the fall, their Shoulder Season menu is typically 5 courses for $37. Alternatively, catch their Après Oyster Special: 10 for $18 – bargain!

  1. The Grill Room

If you’re looking for traditional elegance in a refined setting then look no further than The Grill Room at Fairmont Chateau Whistler. On the menu you’ll find locally-sourced meats, Oceanwise seafood, and seasonal trimmings. The Grill Room is the perfect place for a five-star dinner with friends. The service alone will make you feel like a VIP. It’s polite, welcoming and engaging with table-side appetizers the norm. Order the Tomato Gin Soup, for example, and they’ll prepare it right in front of you! For a taste of Whistler opulence, we recommend the Steak Tasting For Two.

  1. Sidecut

Nothing screams lavish more than Four Seasons Resorts, which is why we love living it up at Sidecut. And it’s not just the food that’s a treat. Sidecut runs an exclusive cocktail program named the ‘Spirit Of The Mountains’, which should be on any luxury-seeker’s radar.

Using Whistler’s unique environment as inspiration, the menu features some incredible brews. Top of our list is London Mountain (Whistler Mountain’s original name). It features Ketel One Vodka blended with Whistler’s local “Hygge Chai” and elderberry among other ingredients. This is one drink that seriously oozes sophistication.

  1. Basalt

You needn’t have expensive taste to experience fine fair in Whistler. Be sure to plan a trip to Basalt during your Whistler getaway. We love it because of it’s tapas-style approach to dining, as well as it’s sleek interior and prime patio real estate.

The menu features impressive cheese and charcuterie from around the world as well as several incredible dishes for larger appetites. The wine list alone makes Basalt a must-visit on Whistler Village Stroll. Add it to your itinerary for a taste of the high life in the Sea-to-Sky.
